What does the Building Blocks Centre Offer? |
|||
The
picture on the right shows members of the 'First Steps to Healthy
Eating Group' which is supported by St Luke's Cares and Faith
Together in Leeds 11. It meets on Friday afternoons at Building
Blocks and welcomes mothers who are interested in learning more about
nutrition and healthy eating through practical work at the kitchen
stove. Please note that for Data Protection reasons it is not
possible to see an enlargement of this thumbprint picture.
What
does the Building Blocks Centre Offer?
+ a highly acclaimed nursery, playgroup and crèche
+ Further Education courses with appropriate crèche/day-care facilities
+ music and movement, stay and play, guided play, etc.
+ family activities and a meeting place for parents
+ a toy library
Why do we need the Building Blocks Centre?
The
original idea for a Parents’ Resource Centre came out of the
experience of local people, some of whom are now members of our
Management Committee. However, it has rapidly expanded into a
nursery/crèche and playgroup facility with additional
activities for parents and pre-school children such as our highly
popular 'music and movement' sessions.
Our
Centre manager Helen Bishop and our childcare manager Sam Withill
welcome parents and children from all ethnic and faith backgrounds
and liaise with OFSTED, local statutory services, FE colleges, the
local Sure Start team and other partner organisations, as well as
organising work with parents and children at other locations in Leeds
11.
The purpose of our work with parents and young children reflects Faith Together in Leeds 11’s objectives of improving educational attainment by providing high quality childcare and support for working and non-working parents.
Community Facilities
The project also provides community facilities to be used – out of hours during evenings and weekends – in whatever way the local community wishes to develop them.
